Handwriting is an essential action that a human does. It is different from print letters. It is unique and restricted individually.
Writing is very important and schools put a strong emphasis on teaching writing. In elementary school, scales have been developed to evaluate the quality of writing from grade to grade and many rigorous studies of handwriting behaviour have been conducted. Studies have shown that the pressure applied to the pen holder during writing and the pressure of the nib applied to the paper are constantly changing, and the writing speed is not uniform and varies with the type of stroke.
The history of handwriting begins in ancient Egypt where they used various letter like symbols to depict important events. The letter writing symbols were adopted by the Greeks, Romans and other civilizations.
There are mainly three types of handwriting that evolved and which is common these days.
Print handwriting type
Commonly called as block letters which is being used since olden times. The young children are taught letters in this format before moving onto cursive writing. Many exams and official documents are printed in this writing type. In this form of writing the person lifts wrists several times to frame a word. Though this is a basic form of handwriting it is suggested to change this writing as it symbolises lack of expressing emotions.
Pre-cursive/cursive handwriting
This is the transition of block letters to joining letters where letters are written together attached to next letter. This form of handwriting does not have extra loops or ends. It is simply joined to reduce wrist lifts. This is taught in schools to children.
Modern Cursive handwriting
This is modified version of cursive handwriting where different styles are used create beautiful fonts. Style such as loops, italics, etc are used.
